A Tennis Training Plan for Busy Professionals: Progress on 3 Hours a Week
Job, family, a merciless calendar? Three smart hours a week beat five aimless ones. Here's the plan.

The honest answer first: on three hours a week you won't become the club champion of your imagination. But you will improve noticeably – if every minute has a job. The problem for most working players isn't too little time. It's time without a plan.
The structure: 2 + 1
Three hours become two 60-minute training sessions and one 60–90 minute match or matchplay session.
Session 1 – Technique & reps (60 min): One focus per session, not five. Example: attacking forehand from mid-court. 10 minutes rallying in, 35 minutes targeted drills (ball machine or partner), 15 minutes under point pressure. Without a focus you train everything a little and nothing properly.
Session 2 – Athleticism & serve (60 min): 25 minutes of tennis-specific athletic work (doable at home: legs, core, shoulder stability), 20 minutes of serves into target zones, 15 minutes of return or volley routines. The serve is the only shot you can train entirely alone – and the one with the biggest leverage.
Session 3 – Matchplay (60–90 min): Training without match practice is theory. Once a week, it counts: sets, under pressure, with a debrief afterwards.

After every session, two minutes of reflection: what was the goal? What worked? What's the one thing for next time? Players who do this consistently learn measurably faster – the brain stores repetitions that carry meaning.
Realism beats ambition
Book the three hours into your calendar like client meetings. And plan buffers: if a week falls apart, that's life, not failure. A plan that survives four weeks beats any six-day plan that dies in ten days.
That's exactly what MatchGrit is built for: the AI training plan knows your calendar, your recovery and your goal – and builds each week from sessions of 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes that fit your life instead of the other way around. Miss an appointment and it reschedules. No guilt trip, but clear words.
